Games built for the five-minute gap
Not every game deserves an hour of your evening. Sometimes you have a five-minute wait and want something that starts fast and stops clean. Those games are their own art form.
The key is instant resumption. A great short-session game drops you straight back where you were, with no forced tutorials or nagging pop-ups. Casual and puzzle games usually win here, but plenty of simulations and even RPGs with quick-battle modes fit too.
What ruins it is any game that punishes you for leaving. Timers, energy systems that lock you out, aggressive daily-login pressure — all of it turns a relaxing break into a chore. We call that out whenever we see it.
The best compliment I can give a game is that I opened it during a lull and didn't feel guilty closing it thirty seconds later. That's harder to design than it looks.
